Plaintiff in Tobacco Trial Smoked for Enjoyment, Not from Addiction, Says Defense


Kenneth Reilly tells jurors that Carmenza Merino enjoyed smoking for more than 30 years and never wanted to quit permanently until her cancer surgery. Merino is suing Reilly’s client, Philip Morris, claiming the tobacco maker concealed the dangers of cigarettes, causing her nicotine addiction and mouth cancer.
